Fascia is also known as connective tissue; myofascia is the tissue that connects muscles together. It surrounds each individual structural component of a muscle starting with the muscle fibers and eventually the entire muscle belly and muscle groups. Fascia is like a spider web structure that has fluid running between its spaces. It keeps all of our body parts in the right place. Fascia should maintain structure, not limit movement. If the fluid becomes thicker or dense it may lead to loss of function and pain with movement.
Myofascial release (MFR) is a technique that uses little to no oil and works to stretch tissues. MFR attempts to restore fascia to its normal viscous resting state rather than a dense gel like state that limits function and causes pain.
